Q Read the following book in preparation for writing your Midterm Reaction Paper: Fadiman, A. (1997, 2012). The spirit catches you and you fall down. New York, NY: Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Reaction papers ask for a detailed overview of an experience combined with your opinion of that experience. The following questions are to be addressed as a template for your paper: • What is your reaction to the ideas being discussed? • Do you agree or disagree with author’s assessments and conclusions? • Can you identify with the situations and perspectives that he presents? • Does this discussion have any connection to your coursework? If so, what? • Did your opinion change during the course of the reading the book? If so, what convinced you and why? • Did anything surprise you? If so, what? Why? In addition to these questions, there is also to be an Introduction section and a Conclusion section. Please refer to the Headings to be Used in the Midterm Reaction Paper handout for the list of headings that are to be included in your paper. Like any good essay, your reaction paper should develop one or two primary ideas or perceptions, and then support them with specific examples. As always, remember to present your ideas and evidence in clear language and a logical order and appropriately cite your resources. **An essential element of this paper is to use citations from your course texts to underscore your perspectives regarding the book chosen for this assignment. Note: no paper should be submitted that is supported solely by personal opinion. Submit your paper through the assignment link as a Word document ~ 5–7 pages plus title page and reference page, double-spaced with 1" margins in 12 point font. Please note that the Fadiman book MUST be listed as a reference. Failure to follow these baseline instructions will result in an automatic loss of 1 point before the grading rubric is applied to the content. This is an undergraduate course in a baccalaureate program. College-level writing is a non-negotiable expectation. Be sure to proofread your work as this is an academic setting and your work should be reflective of that. You will be penalized for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation in all assignments. When you use citations from the text or another resource they should be correctly and appropriately credited to the source document.
